Yes! Hypnotherapy has been officially placed by the UK's Department of Health within the category of 'ComplementaryTherapy'. These are 'therapies which are most often used to complement conventional medicine and do not purport to embrace diagnostic skills.' Other complementary therapies classified by the DoH include therapeutic massage, stress counselling and nutritional medicine.
I am a member of the professional organisation, the General Hypnotherapy Register, which ensures a high standard of care with on-going supervision and continuing professional development.
I offer face to face therapy sessions at the Bure Valley Osteopath clinic in Aylsham, Norfolk. I also provide therapy over Zoom. This has been widely used since lockdown and there is no evidence to suggest that therapy is in any way compromised. In fact, it is often felt to be better for clients as they are in their own homes and therefore less likely to feel stressed. It is as easy to be hypnotised over Zoom as it is face to face.
I hold clinics at the Bure Valley Osteopath clinic on Thursday mornings and evening, and Saturday mornings. For appointments on Zoom, my working hours are flexible, including evenings and weekends.
Face-to-face sessions cost £75; sessions over Zoom are £65. Sessions last for 60 minutes, although the initial assessment session usually lasts longer.
Most problems can be resolved with between 4 and 6 sessions of CBT-Hypnotherapy.
Therapy is tailored around your specific needs, so it is hard to be precise as everyone is different, and people’s issues and goals can change as therapy progresses. We will work on treatment plans together as we go through the therapy process.
Yes, absolutely anyone! Entering into hypnosis is as easy as daydreaming or becoming engrossed in a film. If you can daydream or relax your mind in any other normal way, then you can enter into hypnosis. It is esssentially a matter of belief and imagination - if you imagine that it is easy and believe that you are doing well then you will be right. Practising helps make it easier - with practise and basic instructions, everyone can improve their ability. The aim is that you will be able to self-hypnotise as and when you need to.
Before your first session, we will discuss your problem and your goals. The first appointment will be an assessment – I will ask you a range of questions about your problem and how it is affecting you, and from that we will draw up a treatment plan that will help you meet your goals. At this point I will be able to give you an idea of how many sessions you are likely to need. At the end of each session there will be work for you to do at home – this could be listening to a recording or relaxation exercises, or practising techniques we covered in the session. This is an important aspect of your therapy: as with learning any new skill, it takes practice to change your thinking and behaviour, particularly as often problems have set in over many years. The next time we meet we will review your progress and continue the treatment as appropriate. Everyone’s plans are different and they can often change along the way as therapy progresses – at every stage they will be directed by your needs and priorities.
Yes! I can offer you a one-off 45-minute hypnosis session to help you feel more relaxed and find some inner peace and calm. This is a good way to experience being hypnotised, especially if you are considering CBT-hypnotherapy and want to know what being hypnotised feels like. These sessions are available face-to-face or on Zoom, which works just as well.
There is no benefit in going over painful past events. We can learn however from the past and use our experience to help take us forward positively into the future. Our focus is on how the past affects you today – problems you have now (which may have their roots in the past) and how we can make them better for the future.
Should you need to cancel or change your appointment, please contact me by at least the morning of the day before your session. Unfortunately, failure to do this will mean having to pay 50% of your session.
